120 Species of Birds over 13.77 hectares

  • Puttenahalli Lake also referred to as Yelahanka Puttenahalli Lake is a 10-hectare water body on Doddaballapur Road, The lake along with a plant nursery is managed by Forest Department and houses many Trees as you walk along the nursery.

  • Located near Vinayaka Baddavane on Doddabalapure road.Total area 15 hectares (37 Acres)Famous for the migratory birds roosting at the lakeA bird watchers paradise Reported in several foreign journals Upstream merges with Attur Lake and down stream Yelahanka Lake Wet land between the Puttenahalli and Yelahanka provide ample food for the birds. It also do natural purifier for the water that reaches the Yelahanka Lake.

  • On a normal day, residents from the neighborhood can be found walking and occasionally bird watchers and photographers are seen spending their early mornings with their equipment. Puttenahalli Yelahanka Lake is prominent because more than 7,000 birds can be sighted during the breeding season. The 'avifauna' of this lake also includes some of the endangered and migratory birds from the Northern Himalayas and Siberia. "Many species which are listed under threatened category of (IUCN) find this lake as their favorite abode during breeding season.

  • Our trust is taking measures to convert the lake into a Bird Reserve. In the recent Bio diversity experts have discovered 49 species of birds breeding here. Among the birds found here are Darters, Painted storks, Black-crowned Night Herons, Purple Herons, Pond Herons,Egrets, Asian Open bill Storks, Eurasian Spoonbills, Spot-billed Pelican, Little Grebe,Little Cormorant, Spot-billed Ducks, Purple Moor-hen, Common Sandpiper and other water-birds.
